The Peter and Marcella Sedor Fund was established in memory of Peter and Marcella Sedor by their grandchildren. Peter and Marcella Sedor lived in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania, the children of Ukranian and Polish immigrants. Peter left school at 4th grade to work in the anthracite coal mines as a breaker boy, pulling rocks out of the coal crusher so that the rocks would not damage the machinery in the crusher. Marcella left school to support her family, and began work in 11th grade.

Despite the fact that neither was a high school graduate, they made certain that their three daughters, Marie, Judith and Marcella, were educated and had the chance to attend and complete college. Peter and Marcella valued education so deeply that they even saved up enough money to ensure that each of their 10 grandchildren had money for college. Despite having little formal education, Peter Sedor was elected to the local school board, serving several terms as its chair.

In honor of their commitment to education, the Peter and Marcella Sedor Fund primarily focuses grants on children’s programs and education programs.
